DOLPHINS BACKUP QB TAKES CARE OF HIS MOM

No, this story is not going where you think it is. Tooling around the internet you can find a lot of good stories and have you miss a few as well.

Rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers has maybe the most complicated story as it relates to a college career and many have discussed that if he had remained in school for 2025 – his senior season – he would have made more money in NIL rights than he is as an NFL rookie seventh round pick.

And that he chose to keep his legacy at Texas, deny college suitors at other schools the rights to pay for his services and ultimately, cut off a funding source for his mother.

Say what?

Yes, his mom. But this is a story about a good kid who was obviously raised with a lot of love. And Ewers’ mom certainly did not raise an eyebrow over his decision to turn pro.

When Ewers started taking NIL money as a collegian, he made a decision – he was going to hire an employee. And that employee was going to get paid for time already served.

At Media Day for this last year’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl, Ewers shared that he decided that for all the sacrifices his family had made for him, he was going to pay his mom a salary with the money he had been receiving as a collegian.

A bona fide Texas high school legend, the Ewers family did everything they could to help Quinn in his football journey, including picking up and moving the family closer to a better prep opportunity for the young quarterback.

“I get to pay my mom a salary, which is nice, just because you know, all of the effort and work that they put into me growing up,” Ewers said. “We were living in south Texas and they both quit their jobs and moved up to Southlake. But just for all of the work that they put in for me and my two sisters, what I give back can’t describe how thankful I am for everything they do for me.”

While in college, Ewers had a valuation of $4.5 million dollars in NIL money according to On3. He did deals with Dr. Pepper as “Deputy Ewers,” has his own jerky line through Victory Snacks, a hat deal with New Era, a private jet deal with Nichols Air and starred in an NIL commercial for Hulu, among others.

So no, nothing scandalous here. Quinn Ewers has shown to be a cool customer in his short time in Miami and if nothing else, he’s also a pretty thoughtful son.
